Social Snapshot – November 2017

A big thank you to David & Yvonne Armstrong for hosting the mid week run in October at their home and for providing a lovely sausage sizzle/bbq lunch.   I am sure all the men would have had a good time looking at the collection of cars.   Thanks also to those who contributed to the lunch.    Unfortunately whilst the day started off okay weatherwise it deteriorated into heavy continuous rain.   Fourteen people braved the weather and Bill & Maggie Smith joined us for coffee at the Rezz.

Thanks to Bill & Chris Galler for putting together an interesting Observation Run which ended up at Lenswood.   There were two stops for questions/answers, the first at Uraidla and the second in Lenswood Recreation Park.   Thanks to Margie for transporting the BBQ and food and to all those who helped cook and prepare.    There were 20 members in attendance and the weather was ideal.   Our final destination was the Lenswood Memorial Park which had all the facilities we required.  There was a community event on in the park but we still had plenty of room.   Congratulations to Alex & Sue who came second and Pete Thornton who came in third without a navigator.   Rory & Sue won the event.

The Victorian National Committee certainly organised a full and busy week in Wangaratta for this year’s National Meeting.  The countryside around Wangaratta is spectacular and we had some great drives.   The weather was very kind to us only raining a bit at night and on the day we left.   NSW won the Ironman competition this year.

The next big event on the social calendar is the Day of Triumph, this year being held at Semaphore on the grass at the beach end of Semaphore Road.   Ian has arranged for the Cadillac Club to also be in attendance so it should be a good showing of cars.    However we don’t want to be outnumbered so please come along and join in the day even if you don’t want your car judged, put it on display.

The Christmas Dinner is fast approaching (Saturday 9th December) at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club and they have been celebrating their 125th year in 2017 with many international events being held.    Please make your payments by the November meeting and we hope to see a good number of members in attendance.   The food and service is always excellent and I am sure this year will be no different.   At $50 for members and $64 for non members it is certainly good value for a 3 course meal with a choice of entree and main courses.

The Annual After Christmas Run is heading down south this year and is on Friday 29th December (see advert).   It will be a reasonably short run with lunch at a venue we have not been to for many years (if at all).    Hope to see a good number of members come along for the drive.

The 2018 calendar has been drafted and we are always looking for different people to organise a Sunday run.    Please contact either Peggy or Sue to put your name against a month.   Of course we start off in January with the Ice Cream Run which always proves popular, then All British Day in February so the first two months are already taken care of.

Cheers Peggy-Sue
